"believe naughty is nonsense"

Who I Am

Nurturing. Dedicated. knowledgable.

I founded The Caim on the principle that the label “naughty” is a misinterpretation of behaviour rather than a reality. What is often described as “naughty” is, in truth, an animal communicating discomfort, confusion, or unmet needs.

My academic background includes a Master’s degree in International Animal Law, Behaviour, Welfare and Ethics, alongside a FdSc in Equitation Science, Training and Behaviour and BSc (Hons) in Applied Animal Health from Plymouth University. My paper on the impacts of modern equine management practices explores contributing factors towards higher levels of agonistic behaviours seen in equines, and has been summarised for publication by the British Society of Animal Science and I was selected to present my findings at the annual British Veterinary Behaviour Association conference. This is my area of specialism, I have worked with many equines displaying unwanted behaviours both on the ground and under saddle stemming from a variety of causes such as remembered fear and anxiety, underlying issues within their environment, management, pre-existing pain and stress or a history of incorrect handling or training methods

I am a qualified BHS coach, study programme manager and lecturer at an equine college, I teach riders of abilities from on the lead rein to preparing for competition. My own ridden background includes competing in BSJA, BD and producing young horses. My combined specialisms in coaching and equine psychology means that I offer a holistic approach to training to ensure optimal results and happy combinations.

I am a member of the International Association of Animal Behaviour Consultants (IAABC) and currently working towards full CCAB (Certified Clinical Animal Behaviourist) accreditation. My studies and professional experience have instilled a commitment to supporting owners in developing safe, effective, and fulfilling partnerships with their animals. Over the years, I have worked extensively with a wide variety of equines.

I approach each human-equine partnership with the understanding that every horse is an individual with a unique background, temperament, and way of interacting with the world. Whether the goal is to establish foundational training, build essential skills, address more complex behavioural challenges or progress your ridden partnership, I employ science-based, ethical methods informed by learning theory and equine ethology. Equally, I prioritise helping owners and handlers develop clear communication and mutual understanding, ensuring that progress is both meaningful and sustainable.

I believe in cultivating a calm, supportive learning environment that respects each equine's cognitive and emotional capacities. While there are no “quick fixes,” thoughtful, evidence-driven work creates long-term results—fostering confidence, trust, and lasting harmony between you and your horse.
